I have been painting and drawing on and off since my early twenties and have applied my natural aptitude and enthusiasm for the visual arts as a vehicle for personal enjoyment, and hopefully at the same time, produce work that others appreciate.

Over the past two years I have been a member of the Sheepwash Art Group, and found it a valuable way to improve my skills and receive local feedback. Since retiring, and working with watercolour in earnest, I have now started painting full time in acrylics which I find is a better match for my aspirations and skills. I owe much to the late James Ravilious, for his friendship sadly missed, his inspiration, and wonderful photographs of north Devon (my home), that have helped me appreciate and hopefully emulate, the art of good composition.

My most recent work has focussed on the abstract, and impressionism, using a variety of brush and non-brush applicators for background effects, and mixing colour both on palette and on to the canvas directly (“Ship Docked in a Storm” –displayed on this website, but now sold).
